Letterkenny Army Depot is located near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Created just 11 days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It was chosen as a site by the US Department of War to join 12 other ordnance depots.
Today, Letterkenny has over 2,800 Army civilians, military personnel and contractors, some of them subject to the UCMJ. Today, Letterkenny Army Depot consists of nearly 18,000 acres on a site located primarily in Letterkenny Township, Pennsylvania. The site also extends into Greene Township and Hamilton Township, all of which are located in the County of Franklin, Pennsylvania. As the largest employer in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Letterkenny Depot adds over a quarter of a billion dollars to the region’s annual income. How Military Trials Under the UCMJ Began at The New Cumberland Army Depot
The New Cumberland Army Depot is located in Fairview, Pennsylvania, just outside of Harrisburg. The Quartermaster Department of The Army originally built a depot at New Cumberland in 1918 because of its strategic location on the Susquehanna River. The depot was designated as the Marsh Run Storage Depot. During World War I the Marsh Run Storage Depot was used as a distribution and storage point for supplies going to the Europe. At the close of World War I the Marsh Run Storage Depot was redesignated as an Army Reserve Depot for storage of chemical wear, quartermaster, engineering, signal and ordinance material.
During the Vietnam War the Marsh Run Storage Depot name was changed to the New Cumberland Army Depot. The New Cumberland Army Depot’s primary focus was the repair and overhaul of twin rotor CH-47 Chinook helicopters, specially replacing worn out rotor blades.
Today, the New Cumberland Army Depot is actually the single largest Department of Defense wholesale distribution site in the United States.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is located in Coolbaugh Township, in the eastern part of Pennsylvania. It is mostly used as a logistics center and its primary mission is to deal with repairing, updating and integrating C4ISR and other electronic systems. During World War I the site was initially used as a training site for ambulance corps and tanks for 4 years and UCMJ jurisdiction began then. The upcoming 23 years were used for artillery training. From 1941, it dealt with the young recruits of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Located in Hampden Township, Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mechanicsburg dates to 1941. Less than a year later, the base was commissioned. It was officially opened on October, 1st ,1942. In 1972 it was merged with the center for Ships Parts Control. The name remained unchanged, but the activity drastically increased due to the hundreds of Sailors who were relocated.
Today, NSA Mechanicsburg is a logistical center with both active duty Sailors and mobilized reservists subject to the UCMJ.
