How Military Trials Under the UCMJ Began at Camp Robinson

Located in north Little Rock, Camp Joseph Robinson is the home and training center for the Arkansas National Guard.  Camp Robinson was also once known as Camp Pike, named for General Zebulon Montgomery Pike when it was originally built in June 1917.  Camp Pike was home to the 87th Division for World War I.  After became a demobilization facility and home to the U.S. Third Infantry Division after World War I concluded.  Camp Pike was the headquarters of the Arkansas National Guard in between World War I and World War II.  In 1937, Camp Pike would be renamed for the late Arkansas Senator Joseph Taylor Robinson.

During World War II, 750,000 Soldiers were trained at Camp Robinson.  Today, Camp Robinson continues to serve as a home for the Arkansas National Guard’s Joint Forces Headquarters and other National Guard installations. The camp is also home to the National Guard Bureau’s Professional Education Center and Marksmanship Training Center.

How Military Trials Under the UCMJ Began at Fort Chaffee

Fort Chaffee is located in the northern part of Arkansas and serves as a training installation for Army Reserve soldiers and National Guard.  The construction of the then-Camp Chaffee began in September 1941.  In 1956 it was renamed to Fort Chaffee after Adna R. Chaffee Jr., a World War I hero.
